Sally Raymond is available to lecture nationally and worldwide on topics keyed to supporting every life’s interpersonally mediated growing edge, from birth to old age. She emphasizes that the building of hope, growth and life force are the path to resiliency and stability; she empowers others with information that minimizes despair, hopelessness and helplessness that far too often tragically culminate in suicidality.
Sally has been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) since 1992, a year after her son Jon’s death. Over the years, through both intensive education and broad life experience, Sally has built a large speaking topic repertoire around the importance of social-emotional education (SEL), emotional intelligence (EQ), and internal coping skills. In her talks, she addresses these important topics with equal parts humor, drama, and hard-won wisdom.
SEL, EQ, and internal coping skills are seldom formally taught, despite strong evidence that they are more associated with success and happiness than intellectual pursuits. Though Sally’s late son achieved nothing but intellectual success, without some balance of formal education in socio-emotional skills, he internally sustained unresolved shocks that eventually led to his suicide at 23.
He is not alone. Systematically leaving EQ skills out of school curricula at all ages all but ensures ongoing personal, interpersonal and societal chaos. We don’t have to wonder why there’s so much drug use, suicide, random shootings and violence of all kinds. It’s not difficult to figure out. Without EQ skills, such behavior is guaranteed.
